Bio

I am a direct descendant of Thomas Scudder who came to Huntington, NY in 1658, and died there in 1690. I got my start in genealogical research in 1972 as an assistant to long time Scudder Association historian, Edwin Soper. I have traced and located the graves of all 11 generations in my lineage to Thomas. I still live close to the ancestral homeland of Thomas.
As a member of the Scudder Association's Historical committee, I am working with the family historian and other researchers to ensure the continued accuracy of the official family database.

I welcome all verified suggestions regarding Scudder descendants.
I appreciate all transfers of memorials with the Scudder surname.

A friendly note:
Try to verify grave locations. "Walk the rows". Include GPS with the photos of the gravesite. Take a photo even if there is no grave marker. We owe that to the families who come here looking for those who have passed on.

"Dear Ancestor"
By Walter Butler Palmer (1906)

Your tombstone stands among the rest, neglected and alone
The name and date are chiseled out on polished marbled stone.
It reaches out to all who care, it is too late to mourn
You did not know that I exist you died and I was born.

Yet each of us are cells of you in flesh, in blood, in bone.
Our hearts contract and beat a pulse entirely not our own.

The place you filled one hundred years ago,
spreads among those you left who would have loved you so.
I wonder how you lived and loved; I wonder if you knew
That someday I would find this spot and come and visit you.
