Bio

I first took an interest in photographing headstones in 1996 when trying to locate the graves of my great-grandparents in Liverpool.
Shortly afterwards, together with others, we photographed all of the headstones in the Jewish Cemeteries in Bristol where we lived. In 1997, we published a booklet showing the images and the layouts of the cemeteries.
In 2001/2002, when the website Jewish Community Records UK (JCR-UK) was established I converted the Bristol Cemetery records to digital form and it became that site's first cemetery database.
Since then, I have added complete databases for the Jewish cemeteries in Bradford (2), Cardiff (2), Doncaster, Grimsby, Harrogate, Leeds (4), Newcastle (2), Sunderland and Swansea (2). I have used many of my own photographs together with those provided by colleagues.
