Bio

Thank you to all of the FindAGrave volunteers. This is an amazing community of people that I am very proud to be a part of, and I appreciate how much hard work has been put into maintaining the site.

I've been researching my lineage and my goal is to build out my family's memorials. I'm also happy to fulfil photo requests and add photos of not only headstones, but sources and photos for others that I find along the way as I scour the archives. I enjoy reconnecting long-lost family members as a way to respect and honour the dead.

If I find an ancestor's memorial that is currently unmanaged, I will request it, as it is my goal to connect as many dots as possible. I will do my best to explain my heritage in the message, but feel free to ask any questions you may have! I've listed some details below, if interested.

Searching for:
Martel - Berthelette* - Red River Settlement and La Broquerie, Manitoba | Quebec via France
Durrant (Girdlestone) - Alberta via Suffolk, England
McMillan (Thomas) - Scottish and US origins that trace to England
Schultz (Schmaltz) - Alberta via Volhynia, pre-1900, Germany
Strand/Pederson - Rainy River District, Ontario via Trondheim, Norway
Ek/Eck (Jönsson/Persdotter) - Fryksände, Värmland, Sweden
*many sp variations

Lineage findings thus far:

Durrant: My great-grandfather was born in Kirkley, Suffolk, England in 1909, came to Canada when he was 13, and settled in Mirror, Alberta. He had 12(+?) siblings that I am also trying to trace.

Schultz: I have traced my paternal grandmother's grandfather's arrival to Canada on December 10, 1893, via the SS Grimm on Hansa line, from Antwerp, Begium to Halifax, NS. They settled in Bashaw, AB.
Ancestral Information lists:
Germany: Schonlonke, Czarnican, Posen, Prussia.
Russia: Salomka colony, Rovna dist, Volhynia province, Russia.
Note: in Canada, one Schultz married another Schultz. This makes things a bit more complicated in searches.

Strand/Pederson: My maternal grandmother's grandparents arrived in 1906 from Trondheim, Norway and settled in the Rainy River District area of Ontario, close to where I grew up and my family still resides today.

Ek/Eck: my maternal great-grandfather's family immigrated from Fryksände, Värmland, Sweden to Minnesota sometime prior to 1900.
