Bio

Dr. Steve Anthony Rich, a semi-retired educator, was the junior warden of St. Julian's Episcopal Church in 2019. During that time, his concern for the church's cemetery led him to update the records of burials and add the information eventually to the Internet. During his childhood, his Father and Grandfather drove Steve around the country side of Tattnall County, GA, to acquaint a young, impressionable boy with the final resting places of his great grandparents, great-great grandparents, and a host of other relatives. Through these visits and his faith, Steve developed an unusual respect for the dead for him to be so young. It stuck with him, particularly the notion that gravesites are sacred and should be cared for, hallowed, and preserved. According to his father, Steve's grandfather believed so firmly that graves should be respectable, that he anonymously paid for proper burial of many who were to be in an unmarked pauper's grave. Steve is a native of Savannah, but has been a Douglasville resident since 1988, except a two-year period of time in the 1990's. He first attended a service at St. Julian's around Thanksgiving, 1988. His son, Spencer Anthony Rich, (born in Atlanta,1990) was raised attending this church. Steve spent his career in the Douglas County School System, the University of West Georgia, and the Georgia Department of Education. Prior to his education work, he worked in public relations at the Georgia Department of Agriculture, ending his time there as a personal assistant to Commissioner Tommy Irvin. Steve (born 1962, St. Joseph's Hospital, Savannah, GA) is the son of June Coleman Rich of Savannah and the late Rochell Rich, Jr. (1936-1999, memorial 15796097). Both of his parents were born in Tattnall County, Georgia, and he has one sibling, Catherine (Cathy) Rich Robinson, a Savannah native and lifelong resident, and a retired educator.
