Ottawa County Oklahoma Surname Search Volunteers is a group begun in January, 2020 dedicated primarily to search, verify and suggest changes to findagrave.com primarily of women's "maiden" names, including parents names, when available. Information is garnered primarily from funeral home records of Ottawa County Funeral Homes (and their subsequent name changes through the years) and cemetery records when available, primarily for those records from the late 1800's through 2001. Newspaper obituaries from the Miami News-Record available, since the year 2002 (presently excludes 2003) are also used as time permits. However copies of those are on file at the Miami Public Library, copied from the newspaper, available by request from the genealogy department of the Public Library. Every attempt is made to be as complete, but concise as possible, adding Father's and Mother's names, from the funeral home or cemetery record, whenever possible, along with dates and place of birth and death when available. We do not create or manage any findagrave.com records, for those which do not already exist - but rather will suggest to findagrave.com contributors, for them to "set-up" any new graves, for which we can provide information to them - although this action will seldom be needed, as most graves are already listed on findagrave.com.

We do not do genealogical research. For that research, contact the Miami, OK Public Library, 200 N. Main, Miami, OK 74354, Genealogy Section by contacting them directly at email - [email protected] - or phone to - 918-541-2324. Hours are M, W, Th 9 pm - 7 pm, Tuesday and Friday 9 am - 5 pm, Sat. 9 am - 1 pm. Closed Sundays. Genealogy Dept. availability may vary from Library hours depending on staffing.
