Bio

While I seem to have been a member for a short time, I have benefited from FaG for easily over ten years. At some point, I clicked on the 'yes', I'd be willing to photograph graves that are local to me, and received a request in January 2018. One local cemetery requires leg-work from the office staff. But Arlington National Cemetery is organized with sections and site numbers that makes it is a breeze to find the grave sites; if hiking 624 acres is a breeze. The hillier sections have puzzling number sequences; if need be, the ANC site provides the GPS for each gravestone. This has been a winter project for me; a great way to get exercise and give back all at once. Given the extent of the hills, the warmer weather and other commitments, I will be taking a break for the summer months.I try to provide additional photos that place the gravestone in the larger context. Flat maps and close-up photos don't show the magnificent old trees, the hills and curves of the land, or nearby landmarks. The lighting is not always perfect in all sections on the same day. If you want another photograph, submit a request again; someone may eventually get to it. If the grave is shared, I also add photos to the first person's site, not suggesting my photo is better, but to provide the same day photos of both family members. If the extra photos are not of interest, let me know and I'll consider removing them; especially if the person asking is a close relation.I've especially benefited from FaG providing me with photos of my Buffalo and other New York ancestors' grave sites and have been lucky enough to visit those sites to add the additional photos that I like to have. I've also added to many others family trees by providing research which included FaG photos.I do not know the ins and outs of this site, the use of others' photos, those who ask for way more photos than could be their relations; are we doing others' research for them? My intent is to provide photos for those whose family members' and friends' graves are not local to them, and those doing their genealogic research. If you so desire to give me credit for taking the photo, that's fine. If you're making a profit off it, share the wealth.
