I have been interested in genealogy for as long as I can remember. Then when my daughter was 3, we were visiting my mom and went to the local cemetery with her. My daughter bounced from headstone to headstone, sounding out the names. My mom typically would have only stayed for a few minutes, but she was so enthralled by our little girl. That created something new for my daughter and I. She has always enjoyed visiting cemeteries and reading the various names. We found a little cemetery when she was about 10. It dated back to around Civil War days as I recall. It ended up only having two last names and one of those last names was my mom's maiden name. My mom was able to tell us some history, but she hadn't known where the cemetery was. Having found that cemetery helps me want to help others in little ways like this to fill in the blanks where I can.
