Bio

Master Chief Billy Mason is a native of Milford, Connecticut and a 1989 graduate of Syracuse University where he earned Bachelor of Arts degrees in Economics and Anthropology. He entered the Navy on May 7th 1991 and began training at RTC San Diego, CA. After Basic Training he attended Aviation Structural Mechanic (Safety Equipmentman) school in Millington, TN.
Upon completion of AME “A” school he reported to his first operational unit, the “Sun Seekers” of VR-58 at NAS Jacksonville, FL. In August of 1994 he attended Naval Aircrew Candidate School in Pensacola, FL and was designated a Naval Aircrewman in January 1995. He later qualified as a C-9B Loadmaster in February 1996.
In August 1997, he attended C-130 Hercules Flight Engineer School at Little Rock Air Force Base, AR and upon completion, checked aboard the “Minute Men” of VR-55 located at Moffett Federal Air Field, CA to continue his flying career as a Navy C-130T Flight Engineer. In March 2002, he reported aboard the “Capital Express” of VR-53 at NAF Washington D.C. and was later selected to Chief Petty Officer in 2003. In July 2006, he reported to “The Revelers” of VR-54 at NAS/JRB New Orleans, LA. In 2007 he promoted to Senior Chief Petty Officer and in April 2009 was selected for the Air Force Senior Non-Commissioned Officers Academy at Maxwell AFB, AL.
His next assignment would take him to NAS Fort Worth, TX to complete a BRAC mandated homeport change for the “Eagles” of VR-46. He later became the Senior Enlisted Leader (SEL) for the “Night Wolves” of VAW-77 at NAS New Orleans that later decommissioned on March 31 2012. Following the decommissioning of VAW-77, Billy became the Command Senior Chief of Fighter Squadron Composite 111 at Naval Air Station Key West, Florida. In April 2015, Billy was selected as Master Chief Petty Officer and received orders to the Navy Reserve Professional Development Center (NRPDC) on board NAS/JRB New Orleans, LA. Following NRPDC he was selected to become Command Master Chief for the installation NAS/JRB New Orleans. He and his wife reside in Belle Chasse, LA. His wife Tara is a native of Beckley, WV; they have three children, LT Mitchell Mason US Navy, LT Matt Mason US Navy and Michael Mason LSU graduate.
