I am the daughter of Jacob and Hilda (Lemponen) Marttila. Their data as well as my brother Jack's is already posted herebased on their obituaries. I was born in Conneaut, OH but have moved around a bit. I am now retired so I do have a little more time to do some research.

I have information on both the Lemponen and Marttila families who settled in Michigan and Ohio. They are directly related through marriage.
Matti Marttila of Ylistaro, Finland was married to Sanna Lemponen, they are my grandparents. My mother Hilda Lemponen whose parents came here in the 1890s, married Jacob Marttila, son of Matti and Sanna, in Ohio. What happened was that many of the people who immigrated to the USA came from the same town and settled near each other so they married into families that they were familiar with. There are still many relatives living in Finland.
I also am acquainted with other Finnish families from Kaleva, Detroit, and NE Ohio A couple of examples: my brother-in-law was Rev. Melvin Hagelberg who served as a pastor in Detroit, so I knew his family...like Vieno Hagelberg Kaskinen. I even stayed with them when I was much much younger. My brother Jack worked for the Jouppi brothers construction of Detroit for many years. I also have information and quite a few pictures of the Lemponen family of of Kaleva as they would be my relatives. So I would be glad to share what I can.
