Bio

I am Tom Saltsman. My love of history has led me to a love of family history.

Several reliable sources tell me that I am the 4th great, grandson of Pvt. Philip Saltsman through his son Martin Saltsman.

Philip Saltsman, son of immigrant Wilhelm Saltzman from Prussia, fought in the Revolutionary War. For his services, Philip was given a land grant "way out west" in what is now Eastern Ohio, around Jefferson County.

War of 1812 soldier Martin Saltsman (here at Find a Grave) begat Thomas F. Saltsman (here), who begat Jefferson Jackson Saltsman (here), who begat the first Thomas A. Saltsman, Sr. (here), my grandfather. Thomas A. Saltsman, Sr. begat my father, Thomas A. Saltsman, Jr. (here) in 1914.

So who am I?

I am the oldest biological son of Thomas A. Saltsman, Jr. (An older brother David Michael Saltsman, b. 1950, was adopted.) I was born Thomas Augustus Saltsman III on April 6, 1952, in Sacramento, CA, at Mercy Hospital, a few blocks from Reagan's "new" mansion as California governor back in the late 1960s.

I started violin in 1962 through the public school system, then piano with my mom in 1964. I played professionally in both Sacramento and San Francisco where I lived from 1988 to 2003. My "day job" was often that of a cab driver.

In August of 2003, I moved to the town of my mother's birth: San Antonio, TX. I have thousands of cousins on her side living here.

From my dad's side of the family, I would love to hear from any Saltsman / Allsman, etc. cousins and trade stories. Please contact me at [email protected] or phone (210) 204-0990. I would love to hear from you.
