Much of our family (mo'oku'auhau) work was entered collaboratively over the 5 years of my mother Pat McLachlan's contributor account (#47878654), transferred now to my management, because of Mum's passing (#181269771). In a decade of contributions, over 12,000 edits I recommended have been approved by Fellow Gravers. Though many of our living relatives reside in Canada, we enjoyed my sabbatical year in Scotland and reconnecting more deeply with our family roots there, in Ireland and England also. Fortis et Fidus is our MacLachlan Clan motto, ikaika ʻoiaʻiʻo. For reasons such as the likelihood of disappearing or lost maiden names, I've chosen my public FindAGrave name to honour my maternal lines Satterlee and MacLachlan. In memory of Mother and our ancestors, I'm trying to continue our commitment to strengthening family ties. After a decade of contribution, I haven't yet doubled the number of memorials I created with Mum.

On my Braithwaite father's paternal side, origins draw from the Isle of Man or "Mann," particularly a lighthouse keeper in Douglas.
Via my grandmother's Barringer and Gunderson family, much genealogy work and many records come down through our British Gill lineage. I've even found some family connections in South Africa. We are truly global citizens.

Since the "purchase" of FindAGrave, the prior policy of checking prior to creating duplicates has changed. Merges don't respect the first memorial created, but the first ACCURATE burial record. Unfortunately, this has resulted in family memorials being transferred to non-family creators, and the loss of information sometimes.

As of January 11, 2022, new guidelines have expanded those relationships covered by a required transfer, to include: " ...... child, spouse/partner, sibling, parent, grandchild, great-grandchild, grandparent, great-grandparent, niece/nephew, great niece/nephew, aunt/uncle, great aunt/uncle, or first cousin. This would include adoptive, step and in-law versions of these relationships."
FindAGrave has also clarified WHAT HAPPENS IF TWO CLOSE FAMILY MEMBERS WANT TO MANAGE THE SAME MEMORIAL. If two members are related within these guidelines and both would like to manage the memorial, the member with the closer relationship should be given management."

Both sides of my family have some connection to the Palatines immigrating from Germany, with the maternal Shire side stopping in Ireland for 200 years. Though I am using geneanet currently, I've discovered recently WikiTree and hope to contribute there also to our human family roots.
