Hello, my name is Heather W. Borden-Bowers and I have done Genealogy Research for over 44 years, and I am only 61, Yes I started very young. My grandmother Helen Clara Wageman Cowan was an avid Genealogist. After she stopped doing research, my mother Helen Emilie Cowan Bowers started doing genealogy, thence my sister Irene then I at age 17 took off on it and I haven't stopped since! When I first began, I started researching on my father Howard Edward Bowers, he died 7 months before I was born and was a only child. His mother Bertha Mae Worthington Bowers, was the daughter of William Worthington and Alice Cutright and came from a very large family. Bertha married my Grandfather Joseph Edward Bowers, birth name was Charles Augustine Hassan. His parents were James Hasson and Mary Lippert. James died 7 months before my grandfather was born in a coal mine accident and Mary died shortly after my grandfather was born 1878-1880. James and Mary had 5 boys: James, John, William, Frank and Charles my grandfather. All 5 boys were put in the orphanage in Erie, Pa., at the St. Joseph Orphanage. I found them there in 1880 Census. I also have the records from the Orphanage on each boy. They were born in Clearfield , Pa. This has been a a very long and difficult finding records on them, but I have located some church records which has helped a lot. Charles was adopted by Edward and Mary Amholdt Bowers of Camerson Co, Pa. His name was then changed to Joseph Edward Bowers. This is why I began research to find out who my father and grandparents were. Last year, for the first time I met some Hassan cousins, descendants of Frank Hassan who was the brother of my Grandfather. It was such a wonderful experience ! I love to stop at all cemeteries I see:)I have photo's of gravesites of many of my ancestors and relatives, over 300. I will start scanning them soon and post there memorials. If you have a question or want me to transfer a memorial, I would be happy to.
