Spokane Chapter #1 came into being as a chapter of the Oregon - Washington Society of the Sons of the American Revolution at an organizational meeting on February 1, 1894. On June 17, 1895, the Washington State Society of the Sons of the American Revolution was formed in Seattle, Washington. At that time, the Spokane Chapter became the Spokane Chapter #1 on the WASSAR Rolls. Chapter meeting were generally held on an annual basis up till 1976 at which point it was decided to hold monthly chapter meetings. The Spokane Chapter takes part in many public activities from presenting lapel pins at the new citizen naturalization ceremonies to award presentations to the ROTC and Jr. ROTC. Spokane Chapter #1 has held many programs in various schools and community centers around Eastern Washington teaching the history of the American Revolution. We work hand in hand with Wreaths Across America, the Boy Scouts of America flag retirement ceremonies, and are proud to have been apart of every "Honor Flight" ceremony which has sent hundreds of WWII veterans back to Washington DC to view the WWII memorial. Our Honor Guard has been active in many parades throughout Washington State and has performed their duties at numerous historical monument unveilings around Eastern Washington.
