Bio

I am Dan Bennett, Great Great Grandson of Cooper & Frances Bennett. Cooper, at the age of 44 enlisted into the Confederate Army and served with Col. Andrew Young in the 11th Georgia Cavalry, Company K. I have photographs of Cooper and his wife Frances. I maintain their graves at Hog Mountain Church. I seek more information regarding the Bennett family and if anyone is willing to share, I would be most appreciative.

I am also (on my mothers side) the Great Great Grandson of Amon Lockridge, Confederate Veteran 1861 -1865. Company D, 9th Georgia Artillery posted at Chaffin's Bluff at the close of the war, on the James River between Richmond and Petersburg, Va. My mother remembers her great Aunt, Bertie Lockridge tell stories of how her daddy walked all the way home from Virginia after the war. Cynthia, Amon's wife, made Amon strip in the front yard and scrub himself with lye soap before she would allow him to enter their house. She burned his uniform. He, his two brothers (Francis Marion Lockridge and Richard Lockridge along with a friend who later became a brother-in-law, James I Herrington) all walked home together. The old Lockridge homestead is still standing, Wildwood Road, Suwanee Creek Road.
I recently restored the old Lockridge Cemetery located on Hwy 371 next to a Wal-Mart. I have no idea who is buried where in this cemetery. The only indications are large rocks at the head of each grave, 32 in all. If anyone has information where I might obtain a list of names of those buried there I would be eternally grateful!

I am a beginner at genealogy, learning as I go.
My home is in Cumming, Ga, I served two tours of duty in Vietnam (aviation) and I retired from the FAA - Flight Standards Division, Atlanta, Ga.
