Bio

I am the granddaughter to Burr McKinley Spear and Rosa Estellie (Spear) of Cumberland County KY. I am the daughter of Letha Idea (Spear) Ashby.

Burr McKinley Spear is the son to Joseph Bledsoe Spear and Martha Elizabeth (Long) Spear of Pea Ridge community of Cumberland County, KY.

Rosa Estellie Spear is the daughter to James Richard Spear and Dora Alan Hickey of Chestnut Grove Ridge community of Cumberland County, KY.

My mother grew up in what was called Spear's Ridge (it is now called Hendrick's Creek) and is now under Dale Hollow Lake. She has a quilt top where she has drawn out the entire community where she grew up. It includes all of the houses, pasture fields, the blacksmith shop where Uncle Bal lived and worked. It includes the cemetary where people were buried. It includes where molasses was made, wood was chopped, where creeks were, hay fields were..and even where there were chickens. Stores, peoples houses and even everyone's names. The history of the community tells the story of a "Lost Community" because when the Corps of Engineers" brought the Lake in -- that entire community was moved out -- graves were moved to the Government Cemetary up off 449. Neighbors and families moved, some like my mom stood in backs of trucks with their belongings, all the way to Muncie IN -and left their lives behind. This is a good site Not my bio -- but part of my family's bio -- just the beginning. Maybe
