Find a Grave ID

Bio

✔ PLEASE NOTE: If I find the cemetery for an unknown or cremated burial, I will notify the creator so he/she can edit their memorial....so please just move the person to the cemetery so I can add a grave photo!

Genealogy has become my newest addiction! I have heard there is actually a Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness (RAOGK) group! Great!!

THANK YOU to those of you that I have encountered on findagrave that have been so friendly, helpful, kind, and appreciative. You make all the "bad" seem less significant.

Taphophilia = an abnormal love for graves and cemeteries. The love of walking cemeteries and finding lost relatives and the gravesites of ancestors.

"Genealogy, begins as an interest, becomes a hobby, continues as an avocation and in the last stages, is an incurable disease."
Author - Unknown

Then there is also: Coimetromania!! -- 1. An abnormal attraction to and desire to visit cemeteries. 2. A compulsion to examine the various graves and other burial aspects of cemeteries. 3. In some situations in psychiatry, someone who has a morbid attraction to graves and cemeteries.

By placing memorials on Find A Grave, it is my hope that this information will not only help others, but the records of these family cemeteries can be preserved.

If you've never taken a few moments to spend time in the cemetery...You're really missing out. The peace and tranquility you find in them. Those that have gone before many times have left a final message on their tombstones. These messages are an inspiration and make me feel humbled and blessed! Go ahead...take the time...walk your local cemetery and read their messages and see how they reach out and touch you! You'll be glad you did! (quoted from another find-a-graver)

THE STORY TELLERS
We are the chosen. In each family, there is one who seems called to find the ancestors.
To put flesh on their bones and make them live again, to tell the family story and to feel that somehow they know and approve.
Doing genealogy is not a cold gathering of facts, but instead, breathing life into all who have gone before.
We are the story tellers of the tribe.

"When I go to a cemetery, I don't just see tombstones. I see families there. I see history there. I see much more than just a stone..."

Quoted from another findagravers bio:
In reference to adding military ranks to a person's name:
One who doesn't retire doesn't continue to use the rank as part of their name. Use of rank as part of one's name is reserved for those who serve until retirement. When one leaves the service and resigns his/her rank, so he/she does not continue to use the rank as part of their name. He/she served in an honorable fashion and served his/her committed time.
The opposite to this would be, for instance, a doctor, or reverend, etc.

ALSO:
In general, Findagrave does not encourage adding memorials for individuals who are still living. We do realize, however, that when transcribing a cemetery, it is not always possible to determine if the person is living or not. Given these exceptions, a memorial created after death will be preferred over a pre-need memorial.

*********************

I would prefer that birth/death/marriage certificates not be posted to the memorials I have created. I prefer the space be made available for photos of the person since most of these documents are easily found online and can be transcribed to the bio area of the memorial.

These records, especially Death records, can contain private and sensitive information that family members may not want shared.

The addition is even less helpful if an edit request is not sent to have the pertinent information added to the memorial. Thanks for your cooperation!!

Please do not put photos of newspaper obits on the memorials. These take up limited spaces in the photo allotment. If you have an obit then please type it up and submit it through the edit option and I would be happy to add it to the bio section as long as the name of the newspaper and date of publication are included.

Regarding edits: I welcome any added information, but verification is required.

If you send no verification (resources, documentation, links, etc.) of any kind with your edit, I will do my own research. If I can't verify it, it will not be added and you will receive a declined edit that states "not accurate" or "this edit will remove accurate data". Please take the time to send documentation so the memorial can be updated.
