In February, 2006, my husband and I purchased the property where Reaves Cemetery is located. The cemetery was in extremely poor condition. Although restoration began that first spring it has taken several years to clear the brush and locate broken headstones.

In 2006 we took cemetery restoration courses through the State where we learned the laws and procedures for restoring Reaves Cemetery.

Reaves Cemetery is now visible from the road and you can walk through the cemetery with ease. All headstones have been pieced back together and with the exception of a few, headstones have been matched to their original locations.

The cemetery was in use for 60 years with the earliest burial in 1842 to the latest burial in 1902. A unique attribute to the cemetery is that most of the burial sites include foot markers.

We plan to continue the process of maintaining, cleaning and restoring the cemetery.

I am also in the process of compiling a book with the history and genealogy of the individuals buried in Reaves Cemetery. If you have any information regarding any relatives or would like any information on someone buried in Reaves Cemetery, I am happy to share information. My research includes information provided at the public library, newspaper articles, books, ancestry.com and relatives who have visited the cemetery.
