I am a Canadian American, with extensive family in both countries. My ancestry in both countries extends back to the early 17th century (and in Canada I also have a native ancestry, which extends back to pre-history).

My mothers family is almost exclusively English in ancestry (with a little French, Dutch and Spanish about 400 years ago). My fathers side is Scots, English and Native American (Swampy Cree from Manitoba).

I have one direct ancestor, my 3rd Great Grandfather on the Maternal side, Wait Wright, who qualifies me for membership in the "Sons of the American Revolution", and in the "United Empire Loyalists", because he fought on BOTH sides during the American Revolution.

My primary family lines are Wright, Cooke/Cook, Penfield, Green, Wanton, Burrows, Rogers, and a lot more in the USA.

In Canada they are Stewart,Thompson, Moore, Peers in Nova Scotia; and Black, Foulds, Johnston in Manitoba, and Wright/Provorse in Ontario. My father was an illegal alien in the USA, which gave all of his children both US and Canadian citizenship.

My Wright's fought on BOTH sides in the American Revolution. My Peers and Teeds were Loyalists who went to Nova Scotia after the Revolution.

My Cook's, Greene's and several other families fought strictly on the American side.

My family has served in every war that this country has been involved it. It was strictly Union during the Civil War (nobody went South till the 20th Century). I lost cousins in the American Revolution, The War of 1812, The Mexican War, the Civil War, the Indian Campaigns, The First and 2nd World Wars, Korean and in Vietnam.

I also lost cousins from Canada in the American Revolution, the War of 1812, in World War I and World War II, as well as in Korea.

You might say that I come from an almost prototypical American family.
