Chapter History:

Dick Dowling Chapter 404, chartered on September 8, 1900 chose to honor Texas Confederate hero, Lt. Richard W. "Dick" Dowling in naming the chapter for him. His unprecedented victory at the Battle of Sabine Pass made him a likely candidate for the legacy bestowed by the chapter. Though obscure and incomplete, early records of the chapter suggest it was very active. The chapter welcomed Confederate veterans regularly as guests of honor at chapter meetings. Among the objectives of the new organization, bestowing Crosses of Honor to veterans became a major project of the chapter.
