My name is Yvette Padgett from my current which is also my second marriage to Mike A. Padgett, Humphrey is the one I still use business wise from my first marriage to Joseph R. Humphrey and Leacock is my original family name. I was born, October 29th, 1952. I am the daughter of Panama's first and only Jazz Female Pianist, Dolores A. Leacock. "Lola" as the entire family called her who's photo is the one you appreciate on the left. I fluctuated back and forth from Panama to NYC from the age of 4, my mother brought me to live permanently in NYC when I was 16 years old.

Come October 29th I will be 58 years young, I have a one brother whom I simply adore, Ricardo E Leacock who is going to be 60 years young this month July 21st 1950. I also have a cousin Lydia Leacock, who was born November 27th, 1955. She is the daughter of my uncle Donald E. Leacock, March 2nd, 1931 and his wife, Carmen. Lydia, my brother Ricardo and I were raised very closely and to us, Lydia is our little sister.

Additionally to my mother Dolores Leacock and my uncle who were the two children of our grandfather, Entrepreneur Dalrymple P. Leacock and his wife, Lydia Leacock, Holder who was a concert pianist as well.We have two additional aunts, Pearl Leacock whos children are twins: Ricardo Delano Leacock who lives in Kentucky, USA and his sister Monica de Herrera who is a Professor at Richard Neumann School in Panama.

My mother was a woman who traveled intensively when we were small playing her piano in various parts of the world. With my uncle and his wife working they were unable to care for my brother and I with the watchful eye that they desired so Ricardo and I were raised by a wonderful family in Panama "The Harrison Family" Mildrina Eugenia Harrison Stamp, was the mother, Mavis Williams, Harrison who was the secretary at the NCO Club in Fort Kobee (who was married to Carlos Williams) her sister Ruby Lyew, who owned Escuela Juana De Arco in Panama City, en Called Estudiante directly across from El Instituto Nacional. I graduated Juana De Arco from Kindergarten. After the Hurricane in 1959 she bought her home in Villa Caceres where she had the largest "Guarderia Of Panama" caring for babies from newborn to 5 years old, teaching them both, spanish and english, that is exactly what I wanted to do. then there were their brothers, Alfredo Harrison who worked most of his life aboard ships and their brother, Gilberto Harrison who was a dentist and trumpeteer. This family raised my brother and I from the age of when I was 4 years old and my brother 6 till my brother was 16 and I left when my Mother decided to move me permanently to NYC when I was 16 years of age.

We are the first children in Panama to give a Recital, Classical Piano Concert at The Teatro Central in 1959. Anyone who was anyone in Panama was at this event that featured my Mother, and our Conservatory Piano Professor, Hanz Janowitz. This event was sponsored by El Mayor Aleman who was a dear friend of my mother and also a very dear family that raised my brother and I. The Harrison Family, Millie, Mavis, Ruby, Alfredo, Gilberto.Notables that were at this recital were: Zaggy and Ziggy, the wonderful and great flutist and dear friend of my entire family "Mauricio J Smith Sr" another wonderful musician "Guillermo E Edghill" Fantastic Bassist who has worked here in NYC with every top recording latin artist ranging from Tito Rodriguez, Ismael Rivera up until Celia Cruz and is still going strong today, he has also worked for various american artist's and I simply do not understand why Panama does not give this man the respect he deserves, NO ONE has ever asked him to participate or be a part of any special programs in Panama and that is indeed a slap in the face of a man from Colon that has accomplished as much as he has abroad... Others that were there were Marcos Wilson, el Mayor Aleman and his crew, Bruce Quinn, my godfather Arthur Prysock, Seth Rose my brother's godfather, Victor Boa, Clarence Martin, everyone who was who in Panama was at El Teatro Central that night... That is nowhere to be found in the history (archives) of Panama.

Since I was the only girl, my Mother brought me to NYC to be under her watchful eye. I attended Prospect Hall High School in Brooklyn, NY. I wanted to work with babies just like my aunt Ruby but did not want to invest the years studying medicine or nursing so I went on to take a Licensed Practical Nurse Course, got my certificate and opened my own agency of Baby Nurses which is what I do myself, working caring for the newborn or newborns of the very Rich & Famous & Celebrities in NYC and abroad.

My mother's career took off big time when She landed her biggest gig going to work for renowned American Trumpeteer "Erskine Hawkins" Who wrote such pieces as "Tuxedo Junction" "Cherry" and others. They worked at the very well known then Jewish Hotel "The Concord Hotel" Erskine Hawkins was a big band leader out of Alabama but he settled in at the Concord Hotel with a quartet in the Night Owl Lounge where he and my mother played on for 19 years ending in 1989 when bad health plagued Erskine and he was forced to retire, but while at the Concord Hotel they shared the stage with such greats as: Johnny Mathis, Barbra Streisand, Frank Sinatra, Arthur Prysock, Sarah Vaughan, Billie Eckstine and the list goes on and on. Erskine Hawkins dies on November 11th, 1992.

Shortly after Erskine's death, my mother decided to go back to Panama where she had been offered a job at El Pavo Real Restaurant, She worked there for years eventually ending her career at El Hotel Panama in 2000, ironically the place where everything began for my Mother...

My beloved Mother passed away Wednesday, November 10th, 2001, She was born October 8th, 1929. She is buried in Jardin De Paz In Panama. We know that she is very happy where she is at for she is under a huge, lovely tree where the is a lovely breeze that keeps her fingers cool (smile)Dolores Aurelia Leacock was a wonderful woman, a quiet woman, a woman who knew many people but befriended very few... She adored the very few friends that she had. My brother and I are proud to be her children. I grew up exactly like her, very few friends in my life but those that I call my friends and they know who they are, I simply adore them...

I am not important, what is, is that my mother be remembered for all that she gave a country that soon forgets it's treasures! She was a true Gem and we Miss Her!
