Bio

Hi, I'm Joel Speirs (#46778031) Monette, Craighead County, Arkansas USA.

If I created / manage a memorial that is a family member of yours please send me a transfer request.

I moved from Mobile, Alabama to Arkansas in 1997. In 2007, I legally changed my name from Joel Edward Dunaway, (the name my adopting "Dunaway" parents gave me) to Steven Joel Speirs, after my bank account was hacked online by cybercrooks in an Internet Cafe in Vanavara, Russia. I was stupid and clicked on a link on my former Facebook page, which I also had to close, and remake under my new name.

Steven Joel Speirs is an anacronym of my birth name Stephen Jay Spears I came up with for the year of account security monitoring by the credit bureaus following the hack. I plan to legally revert back to Joel Edward Dunaway after my upcoming move to Jonesboro, Arkansas.

My biological father was Stephen James Ramsey, Jr. that went by, Steve. My biological mother was Katherine Elaine Gilbert. She went by her middle name, Elaine. My biological father's family were staunch Roman Catholics refusing to allow them to marry because she was from a protestant family. In today's world that would not be a problem, but in the early 1950s it was, so I was placed up for adoption.

My DNA naturally comes from my Ramsey-Gilbert lineage, and it is distinctive in that it is totally English from The Church of England, and not Scot-Irish Protestants. There are Irish Roman Catholic women that married into the Ramsey family influencing those Ramsey's in Alabama to become Roman Catholics. The oldest Ramsey ancestor, traced so far, is from Stepney, Middlesex, London, England. Both William Ramsey and his wife's parents, Josh and Madelyn, are buried in St Dunstan & All Saints Church's churchyard, Church of England.

People not having worldwide search capability, and not using DNA, are constantly fouling up this particular Ramsey family tree. I finally placed warnings at the top of every Ramsey male in in the direct line from William in the 1600s down to my biological father. That took many hours of work to accomplish.

Please use proven facts based on multiple citations and sources that truly agree, not citations and sources that are sorta getting close to agreeing.

In 1953, I was adopted by William Edward Dunaway, and his wife Nina Hazel (Chandler) Dunaway. Both born in Georgia. Dad was born as William Elzo Dunaway in 1916 and changed his middle name to Edward by putting it on his World War II draft registration card. Then he signed it, W. E. Dunaway, so that he could claim a mistake if it was ever challenged, which it never was. So, without a court order, William Edward Dunaway used his naval discharge records to keep his middle name changed. Everyone after the war called him by his nickname "Zeke" given him my shipmates for shooting down the most Japanese Zeros radio codenamed "Zekes" by the armed forces.

When my adoption was finalized on January 5, 1955 my name was legally changed to Joel Edward Dunaway. A new birth certificate was issued with my new name on it showing William Edward Dunaway and Hazel (Chandler) Dunaway as my parents with a notation that it was an amended birth certificate.

I realize most people would not put so much personal info in a bio, but my family became huge adoption advocates and I carry on the tradition as the last of my immediate family alive. We have always been up front and candid on the subject to support other adopted children and their parents. To God be The Glory!

I don't have a lot of graves that I have created, or manage, in my nineteen plus years volunteering on Find-A-Grave because I'm highly particular about getting it right. Some contributors throw up memorials making creations without bios, and/or with misinformation, and/or without photos. I am not one of those, as you might have guessed from my mentioning making proper sources and citations above.

My best wishes to all of you that work and volunteer at Find a Grave.

Sincerely,
Joel
