Bio
I am a newly retired school teacher, having taught in Hong Kong, Phoenix, and Tucson for 23 years at Palo Verde Christian Schl. (Computer). I graduated from Westmont College and Denver Seminary, and enjoyed Hong Kong for 2 years. I also worked for the NAE, in DC, before marrying in 1971. My husband, Darryl, has served 36 years at Tucson's UMC; we have a son, Steve, an RN, and a daughter, Stephanie Jakes Potts, a social worker (who has 2 darling babies--our only grandkids--Joshua Hays and Lauren Isabel).
During WWII, I was born to Franklin Marvin Deerhake, of Indiana, and Mabel Isabel Knoll of Cleveland, Ohio. They met in Schenectady, NY where my sister and I were "GE Kids". My Dad was a 1932 EE grad of U. of Illinois (and one of only a few engineers hired during the Great Depression, by GE). His parents were with the YMCA - Franklin Marvin Deerhake Sr. and Clara Marie Reineberg, both of Indianapolis. I never knew my grandfathers, but Clara was a great friend and inspiration to me... and I so long to see her "tomorrow" in her home with Christ. Most of my ancestors were German immigrants, farmers, until Dad and Granddad. My mother's Dad, Will Knoll of Cleveland, was a printer.
My husband's heritage is straight from Prague, Czech Republic, where a distant relative (probably) was the last Communist dictator - Milos Jakes. His Dad was Ernest S. Jakes of So. Dakota. His mother was Ethel Hammer of So. Dakota. He has 3 siblings and I have 2, Claire Deerhake Lemcke Anderson and David Deerhake.
