Bio

Although I do enjoy visiting cemeteries especially those where famous historical figures are buried I don't do this on a regular basis. My interest is mainly in researching the life of Robert Gould Shaw outside of his military career. It has taken me from Charleston to Morris Island S.C. to Lenox and Boston, MA.
I have been to Lenox several time and felt that Annie Shaw deserved to have her grave site listed.
The photo in my bio is of The Church on the Hill Church. It has one of those lovely old church burial grounds. Although there are not any famous people buried there it is full of grave sites of veterans from the Revolutionary War, the War of 1812 and many from the Civil War.
With the help of one member here I was able to locate all of Shaw's family burial sites except his sister, Susanna Shaw Minturn, and her family.
His sister's Ellen Shaw Barlow, the widow of the famous Civil War General Francis Channing Barlow, and Anna Curtis, wife of well known orator George Curtis are buried in the Shaw plot at the Moravian Cemetery on Staten Island.
Also buried in the plot are Shaw's parents Francis and Sarah Shaw. Ellen Barlow's two sons Robert Shaw Barlow and Charles Lowell Barlow are buried there also. C.L. Barlow died in 1965 at the age of 95!!
Josephine Shaw Lowell is buried in Mt. Auburn with her husband Col. Charles Russell Lowell and other Shaw relatives.
The missing figure, which we seem to be closing in on is the Minturn family, which was a rather large one.
There are sites for all of the above mentioned Shaw's however very little information is listed. Anyone who has more info it would be great to see it added to these sites.
