I am a proud descendant of the noted Ward family of the Cherokee Nation through John and Katy McDaniel Ward and their son Charles Jackson and his wife Mary Elvira Henslee Ward. Charles Jackson emigrated along with brothers, Bryant, George and Samuel, sister Susie to the Cherokee Nation West in 1834, along with his two other wives and families from information contained in Lt. Harris Journal. Susie who married William England buried at Cadron Creek Settlement near Mennifee, Arkansas dying there of illness on their trip westward. At some latter time Charles and Mary Elvira returned back East. My g-grandfather Charles Rufus ward was born about 1840 at Murphy, Cherokee County, N. Carolina. He enlisted in the 5th Tenn. Mtd Infantry USA in Bradley County, Tennessee. Upon discharge he moved to Maury County, Tennessee and married 1st Catherine Ray and 2nd Margaret Elizabeth James. Charles Rufus lived in Flint District, Cherokee Indian Territory from about 1871 to 1880. He moved back to Maury County and later into Hardin County Tennessee where my grandfather Rufas Cecil Ward was born and had a son named Jamie Ross Ward who is my father. Several Ward descendants and related families have begun a website on Facebook. There are many descendants who are here also. We have many photos, newpaper articles, obits, census, pictures and historcial documents here relating to the John and Katy McDaniel Ward family.
