Burpee Samuel Dexter, Patrolman Taunton Police Department, retired, 90 years old, died in Morton Hospital, on Thursday March 24, 2011. He was born and educated in Taunton Schools. He worked for Reed and Barton for 4 years before he served in the US Army in Germany and France during WW II, where he received the Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal, European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon. After the war he became a Police Officer for the City of Taunton, a position he held for over 30 years before retiring in 1980. He was a former member of the North Taunton Baptist Church where he served on the Boards of Trustees and Deacons. He has been married for 70 years to Carmen (Lagace) Dexter of Taunton. He is the father of Myra Dexter of Taunton, Carolyn Hodge of NC, Charlotte Magazu of North Dighton, Elizabeth Dexter of Nova Scotia, Holly Mulvihill of Taunton and he was also the father of the late Bonnie Firth, Carol Hill and Bruce Dexter. He is the grandfather of 19; great grandfather of 24 and the great great grandfather of 4. Burpee is the brother of Ruth Kitner of IN; Jeannette Wisz of FL and the late Irene O'Connor and George Dexter, retired Chief of the Taunton Fire Department. He is the uncle of several. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Service in the West Congregational Church, Winthrop Street, Taunton on Monday, March 28, 2011 at 11AM. Visiting hours on Sunday from 3-7PM in the Crapo-Hathaway Funeral Home, 350 Somerset Ave. ( Route 138 South) Taunton. Interment in Mayflower Hill Cemetery. Donations in his memory may be made to Alzheimers Disease Assoc, (MA Chapter) 311 Arsenal Street, Watertown, MA 02472.
