Paul J. Higgins, Sr., 62, of Peru, IN went to be with the Lord at 10:00 P.M., on October 29, 2012. He was born in Everett, Mass on October 10, 1950 the son of Edward Francis and Eleanor Marie Woods Higgins. Paul married Mary Rae Hostetler at the McGrawsville United Methodist Church on September 27, 1970 and she survives.

Paul was a 1968 graduate of Stoneham High School, Stoneham Mass and he also attended Ivy Tech College for two years. Paul was a US Air Force Veteran attaining the rank of Tech Sgt. and proudly served his country for 8 years. He was called back to active duty at the Grissom Air Reserve Base during both Desert Storm and Operation Enduring Freedom to provide aerial ground support for the aircraft at the Base.

Paul and Mary enjoyed golfing, gardening and collecting antiques together, as well as spending time with family and friends. Paul was also an accomplished hockey player playing for over 25 years, with the opportunity to play professionally. He also enjoyed woodworking, was a member of the Moose, and a long time rigger with the Peru Amateur Circus. For the past six years he worked as a Supervisor at Home Depot, achieving numerous awards for his service.

Some of Paul's special pleasures included spending time with his children and grandchildren, and being a friend to all. He liked everyone he ever met and became a friend to many when he left his hometown to settle in Peru, IN, in 1976 to raise his family.

Paul had the uncanny ability to make everyone laugh. He will be remembered for his wit and terrific sense of humor, which never waned during the course of his illness. His hope was to leave a little laughter and positivity wherever he went.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Mary; three children, Carrie Anne Gallahan and husband Lance, Amy Lynn Stockdale, Paul Joseph Higgins, Jr. and wife Rachel; 9 grandchildren, Taralyn, Brittany, Noah, Macey, Jeremy, Paul III, Augustus, Eleanor; a great-granddaughter, Delaney, two brothers, Edward Higgins and John D'Ambrosio, three sisters, Mary Picanco, Rita Wells and Debra Boles, many nieces and nephews who gave him great delight. Paul was preceded in death by his parents, his step father, John B D'Ambrosio and brother, Kenneth

A service celebrating the life of Paul J. Higgins, Sr. will be held at 10:30 A.M., Friday, November 2, 2012 at the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home, 84 West Main Street, Peru, IN. Burial will be in Mast Cemetery, Howard County, IN with Military Graveside Services provided by members of the Miami County Military Rites Unit.. Family and friends will gather from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M, Thursday at the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home.

Memorial donations may be made through the funeral home to the American Cancer Society or the Circus City Festival, Inc.
