James Abbott, 90, of Baton Rouge, La., went to be with the Lord on October 19, 2012. James Abbott was born August 15, 1922, in Bude, Miss. He was the second son of 9 siblings, born to the late Leon and Alice Abbott.

Surviving siblings are Mary Abbott Curtis and Lillie Abbott Garrett.

He was a World War II veteran who served in the U.S. Army as a professional soldier in the 1940s. He attended Southern University in Baton Rouge after he was discharged from the Army. He was employed by Crawford Corporation for many years, and retired from Louisiana State Building and Grounds after 40 years of service as a Supervisor.

He is survived by two daughters, Janice Marie Abbott, Baton Rouge; Dara Abbott-Payne of Dallas, Texas; son, Sean Kennedy Abbott of Baton Rouge; grandchildren, Victoria Dixon, Brandt Dixon, Whitney Dixon of Baton Rouge; and Aja Payne of Dallas, Texas.

On January 21, 1957, he married Bernice Jackson who passed away on August 28, 2008. Mr. Abbott was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice; four brothers; and two sisters.

Funeral services at Curtis Funeral Home, located at 112 East Franklin Street, Natchez, Miss., 39120. Burial services at Port Hudson National Cemetery in Zachary, La. The homegoing celebration will be held at Fellowship Cathedral, 1450 North Airway Drive, Baton Rouge, LA 70815.
