Bio)Robert moved to Knox Co. Nebraska when he was 8 years old. Four years later, he found a home with Mr. & Mrs. A.E. Adams who became his "foster" parents. He was baptized into the Christian Church here.
In 1888, the Adams family & Robert moved to Keota, Keokuk County, Iowa. Since he wanted to preach, he enrolled at Oskaloosa College (the forerunner to Drake University) and was a student there for four years beginning in 1892. During this time, he held student pastorates at Fairview & Galesburg, Iowa. In 1896 he began his first regular pastorate in the latter place. He later moved to Keota & supplied the pulpit at the Church of Christ there for three months and then moved to Mt. Auburn.
