Mary Elizabeth Nusbaum was born May 21, 1844, in Frederick County, Maryland, the daughter of Samuel and Mary Baumgardner Nusbaum. She was married twice. The first time was to Adam Fogle, who died in 1865. Then, on December 28, 1871, in Frederick, Frederick County, to Milton Oliver Valentine, son of Josiah and Emily Shriner Valentine. They were the parents of 4 children: Edward Grant, Virginia May, Thomas Howard and Rosa Emma Valentine. Mary passed away on October 24, 1905, in Libertytown, Frederick County, Maryland, and was buried on the 27th in Union Chapel Cemetery there.

"Milton Valentine, 23, of Frederick County, single, farmer, to Mary Elizabeth Fogle, 27, of Frederick County, single. Married December 28, 1871 in Frederick City by George Diehl."

"On 28 ultimo, at the Lutheran Parsonage by Rev. Dr. Diehl, Milton Valentine to Miss Mary Elizabeth Fogle, both of Liberty in this county."


From the Marriage Records at Union Chapel Evangelical Lutheran Church, Libertytown, Frederick County, Maryland:

"Oliver Valentine, son of Josiah and Emily Valentine, and Mary E. Ogle, daughter of Samuel and Mary Nusbaum. Married December 28, 1871, by Rev. Diehl."


Obituary for Mary Elizabeth Nusbaum Valentine from the Frederick Daily News of October 28, 1905:

"MRS. MILTON O. VALENTINE. Mrs. Elizabeth Valentine, wife of Mr. Milton O. Valentine, the miller, died at her home near Libertytown Tuesday night, October 24, of a complication of diseases, age about 60 years. She is survived by her husband and several grown children. She was an estimable christian lady and a consistent member of the Lutheran Church. Her funeral took place at Union Chapel yesterday morning, service being conducted by her pastor, Rev. R. S. Poffenberger, of Woodsboro."

The first and final account of Milton O. Valentine, Administrator of the Goods and Chattels of Mary E. Valentine, late of Frederick, County, Maryland, deceased. Inventory of goods amounted to $4,990.10, less debts of $29.15, leaving the balance for distribution of $4,960.95, distributed as follows (Milton O. Valentine, husband of deceased waives his distribution share):
--To Edward G. Valentine, as son, 1/4, $1,240.23 3/4;
--To Virginia M. Wagner, a daughter, 1/4, $1,240.23 3/4;
--To Thomas H. Valentine, a son, 1/4, $1,240.23 3/4;
--To Rosa E. Hamilton, a daughter, 1/4, $1,240.23 3/4.
