Elsie was born on July 10, 1920 to Clarence and Louise (Hagenlock) Roseland in Seneca, SD. She grew up in Seneca, receiving her grade schooling at the Lower School South of Seneca. She attended Seneca High School graduating in 1938. She attended Northern State College in Aberdeen in 1938-39 and took extension and summer classes to complete her BS in education in 1975.
Elsie married Frank L. Winters on January 7, 1940 in Huron, SD. They lived in Huron until 1946 when they returned to Seneca. She taught school for 20 years in Faulk County retiring in 1982.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Legion Auxiliary, Rebekah Lodge, WSCS, and several social clubs. She loved playing cards and watching baseball. She particularly enjoyed beating her family in cribbage.
Elsie is survived by her children; Alan (Pat) of Pierre, Dennis of Pierre, Leland (Donna) of Aurora, Colorado, and Nancy of Hermosa Beach, California; 6 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Louise Roseland, husband Frank, sister Mildred, infant brother Raymond, and grandson Craig.
