Kaplan—Funeral services will be held Monday, July 22, 2013 at a 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church honoring the life of Shelvin Lee Stutes, 75, who died Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at Abrom Kaplan Memorial Hospital. He will be laid to rest at Cossinade Cemetery with Reverend Cedric Sonnier officiating the services.

Mr. Pappy was born and raised in Crowley but called Kaplan his home for over 50 years. He served in the United States National Guard, was a farmer, and then went on to become a dragline operator for over 30 years. Since his retirement, Mr. Pappy could usually be found mowing his yard or working on his lawn mowers. He was a very devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.

He is survived by one son, Randall Stutes and his wife, Annette H. of Kaplan; two grandchildren, Alyssa Stutes and Rana Stutes, both of Kaplan; and one great grandchild, Elijiah Stutes of Kaplan.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel Hebert Stutes; his parents, Willie Stutes and the former Mabel Dupuis; his sister, Shirley Adams; and his brother, Sheldon Stutes.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Kaplan, 300 N. Eleazar Avenue, on Sunday, July 21, 2013 from 11 a.m. until 9 p.m. with a rosary being prayed at 7 p.m.; Monday, July 22, 2013 from 8 a.m. until services.
