John I. "Honey" Simon, 87, born in Kaplan, LA; and a resident of Morgan City, passed away Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at Teche Regional Medical Center.
He served his country in The United States Army and was a proud veteran of WWII. John loved his family dearly and cherished every moment he could spend with them; he also enjoyed being outdoors tending to his garden.
"Honey" is survived by his loving wife of 64 years Bernice Simon of Morgan City; two daughters Gwen Morell and her husband Jay, and Cynthia Broussard and her husband Jerry all of Morgan City; his grandchildren Shelly Sykes, Mark Morell, Ashlee Broussard and Brad Broussard; his great-grandchildren Brett, Jillian, Riley, Kameron, Grant.
John is preceded in death by his parents Leodise and Rosa Thibodeaux Simon; his brother Pierre Aglace Simon; and his sister Dula Faulk.
A time of remembrance and reflection will be observed Thursday, June 2, 2011, from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm at Hargrave Funeral Home; and will continue Friday, June 3, 2011 from 9:00 am until dismissal at 10:30am, at Hargrave Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11:00 am at Holy Cross Catholic Church. The East St. Mary Parish Funeral Squad will conduct full Military graveside Honors. John will be laid to rest in the Morgan City Cemetery.
