Wellsboro Agitator - September 7, 1910:

Mr. Geo Whitney, aged 65, died Thursday afternoon, Sept. 1, at his home in Middlebury township, after several weeks' illness. He was born Dec. 20, 1844, and married Miss Della Dickinson. To them three children were born - Anna, wife of Robert Dunn, of Coudersport; John, of Elkland, and Frank, deceased. His second wife was Miss Fannie Sherman. To them one daughter was born, who died in infancy. He leaves two sisters, Mrs. Chas. Sweet, of Niles Valley, and Mrs. Caroline Gee, of Tioga, and three brothers, Richard, of Crookedcreek; John and Leslie, of Tioga. This makes three brothers who have died within nine months - Ira, of Crookedcreek, died in May 1910, and James, in October, 1909. George Whitney was loved and respected by all who knew him. He realized that his end was near and made all arrangements for his burial. The funeral was held at Crookedcreek at 11 a.m. Saturday, Rev. R. M. Cloud, of Wellsboro, officiating; burial in Tioga. The pallbearers were Jos. Manning, Herman Button, Gilbert Starkey, Robert Sampson, Andrew Wedge and William Root.
