Dona Rae Gillespie Church Together at Last

Dona Rae Gillespie Church was born to Charles Hemphill Gillespie and Thelma Hopkins Gillespie Sept. 22, 1937 in Santa Monica, CA.

She attended high school in Cedar City, Utah then moved to St George, Utah where she attended a year of Dixie High School and College and met the love of her life, Richard F Church, whom she married in the St George Temple June 14, 1956.

She passed away from this life and into the arms of her beloved Richard February 10, 2007 after battling diabetes more than 30 years. After Richard completed his Pharmacy degree at the University of Utah, they moved to Boulder City, Nevada with their young son, Craig; and daughter, Wendy. They stayed in Boulder City from 1962-2002 during which they added daughter, Laura; son, Russell; and the baby of the family, Shannan.

After the death of Richard in 2001, Dona moved in with her daughter, Wendy, and has lived in Payson, Utah until just recently when she moved to St George Care and Rehabilitation Center in St. George.

Richard and Dona Rae were well known Boulder City folks. Richard was the local pharmacist for many years and Dona Rae was right by his side. Dona Rae's whole life revolved around Richard and her greatest joy in life was being a wife and mother. She spent her days singing while she worked and her children know every song from the 50's and 60's that was ever recorded thanks to her happy singing spirit.

Since Richard's passing in 2001, not a day has gone by that she hasn't expressed her sorrow and loneliness and her longing to see him again. She was truly a devoted wife and wanted nothing more than to spend time with her sweetheart. Dona Rae is survived by her children, Craig (Suz) Church of St George, Wendy (Craig) Birmingham of Payson, Laura (Kevin) Jensen of Brigham City, Russell (Sue) Church of Smyrna, Tennessee, and Shannan (Rob) Johns of Reno, Nevada. She is also survived by her sister, Madge Carpenter of St George; brother, Guy Gillespie of Cedar City; 11 grandchildren; two great-grand-children; and numerous nieces and nephews who love her dearly.

Services will be held in Boulder City, Nevada at the Black Canyon Ward on Fifth and G Street, 10 a.m. Saturday February 17, 2007 with viewing one hour prior in the Relief Society Room. Viewing will also be held at the Palm Mortuary on Boulder Highway in Henderson, Nevada the preceding Friday from 5-7 p.m. (801-465-3208)
