One of thirteen children, she was given the name Alvina Elizabeth. She was a member of the St.Luke's Catholic Church in Two Rivers. Her brother Peter Isaac became Father Isaac.
She entered the cloisters 13th August,1889.
The good Sister was very sick abed for months, though sickness had been her lot for some years. It fastened on her as a result of Influenza. Troubled as she was with severe headaches, she never wished to leave her post of duty. When unable to teach and entire class she still wished to assist.
During the winter of 1894 while teaching in Cooperstown, she was taken with a severe cold.
About Christmas she came home to attend to some needs for the Mission. It was noticed that she was not well and Mother wished to take her Home. She begged so earnestly to return to be of help to the Sisters, that Mother could not refuse. Not long after Mother received word that poor Sister Candida had become bedfast. On 22nd February,1895 as the weather was rather mild, Mother brought her home. She had consumption of the lungs and of the intestines. Her sufferings were intense. She felt that earth's pilgrimage was nearing the end; but she longed for it.
Toward the close of March, she suffered so severley that we thought she must die. Eatables taken in any form caused violent pain therefore, for a time she confined her nourishment to liquids. She seemed a little better, but weaker--so she again tried to partake of solid foods. She had to suffer for another month which she bore with heroic patience.
As often as permitted, she received the Blessed Sacrament. One day, she told a Sister that she saw her heart as a monstrance before her. Her condition did not change considerably until 23rd April.Such great weakness seized upon her that two evenings Holy Viaticum was given her. Then her condition was slightly improved.
She was ever so pleased to see the Sisters and spoke of her great happiness so soon to greet Jesus. "I am so glad to go to my Jesus" she would say. Often she asked them to sing "Oh take me to thy Sacred Heart I'm weary here." Sometimes at night she would ask for the hymn she loved best.
28th April, her sufferings were great as they were on the days that followed. The only mitigation seemed to be in the reception of Holy Communion. Her head the night before her death pained so much that she liken it to three rings bound around it.
On 2nd May, at 6:20a.m., her longing to be released was fulfilled. She was twenty-two years old.

Holy Viaticum is the Eucharist to a person who is dying and it is part of the last rites of the Catholic Church.
