James Nelson Eveland is his full name, my father in law was named after him, his grandfather. Nelson was an adventurous fella and his family was with him. He had a land grant down in Ironton Missouri, which ended up being sold on the court house steps to a corporation involved in farming. He then left that area after his 1st wife passed away (Either Missouri or one of his many trips to Ill, where he also owned property) and came to the Lincoln county area (PeaRidge). He traveled twice by covered wagon to California in search of gold and then returned home. Settled down with Mary E Matheny and now they rest together. It is known that Nelson and Minerva Ann Cross, his 1st wife( married 20 Oct 1849) had 6 children; Stephen Marion Eveland Sr 1851-1926 William Perry (Billy the story teller) 1855-1938 Lenora A Eveland 1856-1920 Emily Maude Eveland 1858- Mary Electa Eveland 1861-1922 James Lewis Eveland 1861-1944
