Joseph A. Heller, Sr., 73, of 20 Roy St., died Monday at Yale-New Haven Hospital after a brief illness. He was the husband of Ruth Clock Heller. Mr. Heller was born in New Haven July 13, 1912, son of the late Otto and Rose Eging Heller, and was a resident of East Haven for 69 years. He was a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service, East Haven Branch 19, for 25 years until his retirement 20 years ago. He also had worked for Yale University Law Library for 37 years, where he was night desk supervisor until his retirement. He was a communicant of St. Vincent de Paul Church. Besides his wife, he leaves two daughters, Patricia Bedard and Kathleen Weed, both of Madison; three sons, Joseph A. Heller, Jr. of Centerbrook, Robert J. Heller of Guilford and Richard J. Heller of Oxford; and nine grandchildren. He was predeceased by a sister, Mary C. McCaul. The funeral will leave W.S. Clancy Funeral Home, 43 Kirkland Ave., East Haven, Thursday at 8:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St. Vincent de Paul Church, Taylor Avenue, at 9. Burial will be in All Saints Cemetery, North Haven.
