Adrian Earl Truitt, 77, born March 14, 1903 in Chillicothe, a son of Charles and Mary Berdelle Topping Truitt, died December 24, 1980, in Peoria, Illinois. He married Helen McEnroe July 7th, 1922 in Peoria, IL. He was employed by Hiram Walker and Sons for 29 years, retiring in 1968. He was a member of St. Peter's Church, The Old Timers Baseball Association, Distillery Workers Retirees Club, and the Spalding Alumni and Boosters Club. Surviving are his wife, four sons, Donald of Wilmington, CA, Eugene of Lemoore, CA, John and Charles of Peoria; one daughter, Mrs. Larry (Regina) Tilton, of Amarillo, TX; two sisters, Mrs. Allegra Colborn of Deerfield Beach, FLA and Mrs. Paul (Hazel) Schamp of Santa Rosa, CA; 18 Grandchildren and 4 Great Grandchildren. Two sons and two daughters preceded him in death. A loving husband, devoted father and best ever Grandfather and Great Grandfather, and friend to all, he will be sorely missed. He was my paternal Grandfather and we lived on the same street, just doors apart and went practically everywhere together. I loved running down to their house, where Grandpa played cards, and checkers with me while Grandma always had homemade cookies for us, or baked goodies. Grandpa doted on his Grandchildren and was a source of so many funny rhymes, riddles, and enjoyed dancing around to our delight. I didn't realize until as an adult and partaking in genealogy that his riddles were his way of telling his truth about his family. He loved rides to Chillicothe, Illinois where he was born and raised. We visited many relatives there and always visited the Chillicothe Cemetery where so many of the family are buried. We always decorated the graves and said prayers together for our dearly departed. I loved him and my Grandmother as if they were my own parents. He had nicknames for us, his grandchildren. You can just see the love in the photo I attached which is priceless to me. Whenever I would leave to walk back to our home, he would follow me and hand me a quarter for coming to visit. He never, ever needed to give me anything as his love was worth more than gold. It brings such emotion, tears to my eyes, just personalizing his memorial. I was truly blessed.
