She was the daughter and 8th child of 9 children of Finis Ewing Lowry (1828) and his second wife Louisa Marie Crider (1845). She was the wife of James Byrd Farmer (1873). She and James raised seven children at their farm at Donaldson, Caldwell, Kentucky that they purchased from her parents: Ina Olive Farmer Dorris (1900), Leslie Otis (1902), Floy Ancil (1904), Richard Hubert (1907). Lora Ethel Farmer Byard (1909), Mary Edith Farmer Kemp (1913), and Dorothy Helen Farmer Roosevall (1921).
