Neil Henry Powell, 84, of Amarillo died Sunday, July 15, 2012.

Mr. Powell was born Sept. 19, 1927, in Spade to John and Mora Powell. He was raised in Spade near Littlefield and moved to Wellington as a teenager. He served his country in the Army. He married Louise Ward on June 1, 1947, in Wellington. In 1963 they moved from Wellington to Tulia. They lived there for more than 40 years before moving to Amarillo in 2009.

Mr. Powell was a family man who lived his life for his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He was a minister for many years. He farmed, custom harvested, worked in law enforcement and was a fire marshal. He did what it took to provide for his family. For many years, he pastored at churches where he felt God sent him. He loved wood-
working, writing and, most of all, being Poppy to his family. He was a member of Rockwell Road Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, April McRoberts Baker, and a brother, Pat Powell.

Survivors include his wife, Louise Powell; three daughters, Carol McRoberts, Vicky Hamilton and husband Al and Debbie Barbour, all of Amarillo; three sons, Dean Powell and wife Norma of Amarillo, Randy Powell and wife Alana of Lubbock and Gary Powell and wife Lorna of Vernon; two brothers, Bruce Powell and wife Louise of Clovis, Calif., and Clyde Powell and wife Sue of Shamrock; two sisters, Lena Hammett of Kingston, Okla., and Avis Whitten of Wellington; 16 grandchildren; and 38 great-grandchildren.
