TOMMY M. BABER, 66, of Alvin, Texas passed away on September 22, 2012, at his home. Tommy was born on January 28, 1946, to Thomas A. Baber and Jane C. (Tannehill) Heitzman, in Lubbock, Texas. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on November 30, 1965, during the Vietnam War. He served as a Military Policeman receiving a CRYPTO security clearance until his honorable discharge on November 29, 1968. Tommy then joined the Houston Police Department as a cadet on June 22, 1970. He served in the Radio Patrol Division for seven years until his promotion to Sergeant/Detective, where he served in the Burglary and Theft Division. Tommy took great pride in his duties as a peace officer until his retirement, following 34 years of service.
Tommy lived in Alvin for 42 years and was a member of Grace Episcopal Church. He loved his many hobbies over the years, he always put in 100%, whether it was competition shooting, reloading, fishing (he even tied his own rods), bicycling, and gardening. He was a lifetime member of the NRA.
Tommy is preceded in death by his father, Thomas A. Baber, his mother Jane C. (Tannehill) Heitzman, and his stepfather Glyn V. Heitzman.
Survivors include his sons; Robert Baber of Houston, Texas, Anthony Baber and wife, Susan, of Sugar Land, Texas; daughter Sarah Baber of Shreveport, Louisiana; brother Terry Baber of Baytown, Texas; granddaughter Hannah Baber.
