Maxine was born on Oct. 15, 1922 in Savage, the daughter of William and Murle(Howard)Moore. She grew up and attended school in Savage. Maxine was united in marriage to Robert "Bob" Gregg on Feb 24, 1939 in Wolf Point. They made their home in Savage until 1941 when Bob was called by the Civil Service. The family then moved to Bremerton, Wash., where he worked in the shipyards. While in Bremerton, Maxine worked several places as a waitress. In 1945, they returned to Savage and she started working for the Savage Mercantile. She worked there on and off for the next 26 years. She worked as a scale lady during 33 campaigns for Holly Sugar. Maxine was the first lady to give out candy to the kids as they came through the scale. She was also a substitute mail carrier and caregiver. Maxine retired from Holly Sugar and carrying mail in 1985. She then went to work for the Lower Yellowstone Irrigation Project as a ditch rider for several years. After Maxine and Bob retired they remained in Savage. Her husband Bob died in May of 1991.
Maxine attended the First Congregational UCC Church in Savage. She was a member of the Guys and Gals Square Dancers. Maxine enjoyed cooking, crocheting and spending time with family and friends. She also enjoyed playing cards, games and dice.
Maxine died Jan. 24, 2002, at the Sidney Health Center Extended Care Facility.
Maxine is survived by a son William "Bill" (Linda) Gregg of Colstrip; daughters, Leota (Henry) Johnson of Sidney and Jolene (Cody) Taylor of Miles City; a sister Blanche Hahn of billings; nine grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bob; two sisters, Bethel Dashner and Peggy Lapp; and one brother, Bill Moore.
Interment was in the Riverview Cemetery of Savage.
