Amos E. Foor

Amos E. FOOR, 96, Rochester, passed away at 4 a.m. Sunday at his residence.
He was born Jan. 30, 1915, in Fulton County, the son of Clark and Lucia (Stinson) Foor. On July 27, 1943, Amos married Wanita K. (Stoelting) Foor in Rochester. She preceded him in death on Nov. 7, 2003.
Amos had worked at Safe Way Steel, Rochester. He was a fourth generation farmer. With his wife he farmed for over 40 years on the family farm which was established by his great-grandfather William Foor in 1862.
He was a lifetime member of the Athens United Methodist Church. Amos joined Gideon's International in 1951 and was a charter member of the Fulton County Gideon's Camp. He was one of the oldest Gideon's in this area. Amos was a U.S. Army veteran receiving a Purple Heart while serving in the Philippines during World War II. He graduated from Akron High School in 1933 and enjoyed being outdoors and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his daughter, Jenean and husband Eldon Rager, North Manchester; son Edward and wife Roberta Foor, Rochester; six grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Along with his wife he was preceded in death by his parents.
Services are at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Hartzler Funeral Home, 305 W. Rochester St., Akron, with the Rev. Terry Marker officiating. Visitation is from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial is at Rochester IOOF Cemetery where graveside military rites will be conducted by the LeRoy Shelton American Legion Post No. 36 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1343 Honor Guard, both of Rochester.
