Elizabeth Delores Hyder Barr is the third child of Elijah and Salina Hyder.

She attended W.A. Peete Elementary School and graduated from Emmett Scott High School in Tyler, Smith County, Texas, on January 28, 1938. She earned a B.S. in Home Economics from Tillotson College (now Huston-Tillotson University) in Austin, Texas on May 26, 1942. She had the privilege of attending her 50th College Reunion in May 1992. Elizabeth Hyder Barr pledged the Alpha Nu Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority as a college student and was a founding member of the South Bay (CA) Alumnae Chapter.

Elizabeth Barr was first a teacher in Rusk County, Texas. She moved to Los Angeles County, California, and for more than 30 years was an educator in the Los Angeles Unified School District.

Known for excellence in all endeavors of her life, Elizabeth Hyder Barr was a beautiful, loving and generous person who never forgot her friends and let them know OFTEN how much she loved them.

She was the wife of A.W. Barr for more than 46 years.

At her demise, she is survived by her husband, a brother, nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.
