Norman Hill Payne, 68, died suddenly Wednesday at HCA Putnam Community Hospital.
A native of satsuma, he had lived in satsuma since 1964 coming from charleston, S.C. He was retired after over nine years as a security officer with the state of Florida Road Department. He retired after 23 years with the U.S. Navy having served in World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He was also a member of the Fleet Reserve.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Louise G. Payne of Satsuma; two stepdaughters, Charlotte Fowler of Lake Worth and Mildred Franzen of Amesbury, Mass.; sister, Marian Advant of Middleburg; brother, Clyde W. Payne of Crescent City; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Johnson-Overturf Funeral Home in Palatka with the Rev. Gary R. Isner officiating. Burial will follow at Satsuma Cemetery with full military honors by the U.S. Navy. (Palatka Daily News Obituary undtd.)
