Charles was born on June 22, 1940, in Shelbyville, the son of Charles R. and Edna V. (Doty) Sparks.
Charles was a veteran of the United States Navy. He retired from World Color Press in Effingham as an industrial maintenance technician. He enjoyed camping, fishing and building and repairing clocks. Charlie also enjoyed the company of his IGA coffee buddies.
Charles is survived by his daughter, Roxanna (Dave) Apke; son, Charles R. (Karla) Sparks III; grandchildren, Jennifer Apke, Dustin Apke, Clint Apke, Ellen Sparks and Theresa Sparks; sisters, Carolyn Furnish, Delores (Ron) Frazier, Ruby Ferguson and Ruth (Ed) Niccum.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jack Sparks, and sister, Mary Sparks.
Funeral services were held at Johnson Funeral Home, Effingham, with the Rev. Bob Ward officiating.
Burial was in Hubbartt Cemetery in Beecher City.
