Jeremiah J. Geagan, who retired many years ago as a proprietor of the men's hat shop in the old Fifth Avenue Hotel at Broadway and Twenty-third Street, died yesterday in his home, 420 West End Avenue. His age was 81.
Born in New York and educated at the Packard Business School, Mr. Geagan started his career as an employee of Kennedy & Sons, a men's haberdashery concern formerly on Cortlandt Street. He rose to be manager, and later went into business for himself at the hotel.
He leaves a widow, Mrs. Caroline T. Geagan: a daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth M. Kennedy, and a stepson, Matthew F. Moran.
