The card states his Mother lives with him or is his dependent.
James signed the card with his mark.

From the "Comanche Chief" newspaper obituary, dated 08 November 1979:

"Henry Ripley, 89, well known Comanchean, died at 9:40 o'clock Sunday night, November 4, from injuries sustained earlier in the evening when he was struck by an automobile on North Austin Street.

City Police Department investigators reported Ripley was walking across North Austin Street & Highway 16 near the North Austin Church of Christ when he was struck by a passenger car driven by H.R. Jefferies, Comanche school superintendent. The accident, after dark, occurred about 6:30 o'clock. The driver of the vehicle apparently did not see Ripley until he stepped out in front of the car.

Ripley was taken by ambulance to Comanche Community Hospital where he died about three hours later.

Funeral services for Mr. Ripley were held at 2:00 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, November 6, in Comanche Funeral Home Chapel. Minister Alvin Moore officiated.

Burial was in Mercer Gap Cemetery.

Mr. Ripley, son of the late John and Callie Cassman Ripley, was born October 25, 1890 in Delta County. He had been a Comanche County resident for 75 years, coming here with his parents.

A retired farmer, he was a member of the Church of Christ, North Austin Street.

Mr. Ripley is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Lydia Kemp and Mrs. Ed Green, both of Comanche."
