THOMAS GRADY BURCHFIELD, 22, of Dallas, a former Security resident, died Sunday in a Dallas traffic accident. He had been a police officer with the Dallas Police Department since April 12, 1989. Mr. Burchfield's partner also was killed in the accident.
A funeral service was conducted Wednesday at the Gross Road Baptist Church, Dallas, with the Rev. Paul Sadler and Dallas Police Department chaplain Stan Griffis officiating. A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday in Doty Springs, Miss. Anderson-Clayton Brothers Funeral Home, Mesquite, Texas, was in charge of arrangements in Dallas.
Mr. Burchfield was born Nov. 11, 1967, in Fort Benning, Ga. He is survived by his parents, Garey and Wilfriede "Willie" (Heil) Burchfield of Security. Mr. Burchfield graduated from Widefield High School in 1985. He was a member of the school's National Honor Society and rodeo team. Mr. Burchfield studied criminal justice at Pikes Peak Community College from 1987 until 1989.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Burchfield is survived by his sister, Diane of Waco, Texas; paternal grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Earl Burchfield of Ethel, Miss.; and fiancee Sandy Carsten of Dallas.
