Mary Ann Jane Bailey, a Mormon, was born in Elbert County, Georgia in 1842, and married Douglas Downs Knight 9/29/1863.

'Downs' Knight was a soldier on the roster of Co. B, 15th Georgia Volunteer Infantry, (The Tugalo Blues), during the Civil War, as were several Bailey men.

Given the dates they all joined, and the fact they were all volunteers from Franklin County, it is logical to assume some - or all - of them were somehow related to Mary.

They were:

1: Ferdinand O. Bailey, Who joined as a Private 7/15/1861. He was transferred to Co. F 5/15/1862, and was wounded @ 2nd Manassas 8/30/1862. He was appointed 4th Corporal in 1862, and to 1st Sgt. 4/21/1863. He was wounded near Fort Harrison, VA 9/29/1864, and surrendered at Appomattox, 4/9/1865.

2: J. A. Bailey, who joined as a Private on 3/4/1862. He was appointed 1st Corporal 6/20/1964, and deserted 2/25/65.

3: Paschal Bailey, who joined as a Private 7/15/1861. He was wounded and captured at Gettysburg, PA on 7/2/1863. He last appeared on the muster roll 8/1863.

4: Reuben J. Bailey, who joined as a Private, 7/14/1861, (the day the unit was commissioned.) He was killed near Gaines Cross Roads, VA on 7/24/1863.

5: Samuel Bailey, who joined as a Private 7/14/1851. He was captured at Gettysburg, PA 7/2/1863 and exchanged at Pt. Lookout, MD 2/18/1865.

6: W.J. Bailey, joined as a Pvt., 3/1/1863 and surrendered at Appomattox, 4/9/1865.

7: William Bailey, Pvt., 7/15/61. Elected Jr. 2nd Lt. 10/1861, 1st Lt. 4/25/62, and died of disease at Jackson Hosp., Richmond, VA 9/16/64. Burried Richmond, Hollywood Cemetery.

Mary Ann Jane Bailey Knight was burried 6/12/1926 in Kingston, OK.
